Dr. Robert K. Ross, president and CEO of the California Endowment and one of the most influential civic leaders in the state and the nation, joins ZOOM’D for an inside look at social challenges in America—and how local communities serve as the centerpiece for new and critical innovation. With an on-the-ground view of some 8000 grants executed by the Endowment, Bob sheds light on important learning about how meaningful change is realized and how impact is sustained over time. While our institutions of government are stuck in a morass of debate, local communities and associated players are addressing real issues with real innovation, fueled by underpinning shifts in perspective: nonprofits are thinking “change, not charity” and communities are seeing themselves as “incubators for ideas, not supplicants for services.” This ZOOM’D conversation is further brought alive with focus on the healthcare debate in Congress—and the fundamental framing and paradigm shift that is missing.
