Dr. Manuel Pastor, Professor of Geography and American Studies & Ethnicity at the University of Southern California and Co-Director of USC’s Center for the Study of Immigrant Integration, joins ZOOM’D for an up-close and personal look at the issue of immigration in America. With Arizona’s new law as a backdrop, Manuel explores the many facets involved: demographic patterns, economics, politics, history, and the human stories behind all of these. While immigration has contributed much growth and cultural change to American, much controversy has also come with it—ethnicity, benefits, jobs, settlement patterns, social mobility, crime, and voting behavior—which have all served as flashpoints of contention. Manuel helps define realities and creates a picture of what true, meaningful, and just immigration reform in America might look like. Join ZOOM’D host John Schmidt and Manuel as they bridge beyond political polarities and give shape to a world of desirable immigration futures.
